Slide 8: Advantages of the RM

This kind of storing DSS data is optimized for quick creation, access, update or deletion of single individuals.

The formal structure of the data base ensures, that the entred data can always be found with the recorded relations.

Since data are stored without redundancy, contradictions within the data are reduced already reduced at the stage of data base design. Another effect of redundancy free data can be ffound in a reduced volume of the data base.

Relational data bases are also quite insensitive to change. Additional tables which contain data from coming studies can be popped into the model without changing the original structure.

With these features, the relational model is best suited for OLTP systems.
